Overcoming alcohol addiction once and for all

I struggled with alcohol use disorder for nearly 10 years. Throughout that time, I tried countless times to try and control my drinking, or quit for good, and nothing worked. In fact, my alcohol use just appeared to be getting worse.

I was drinking a bottle of wine most nights, and spending most of my weekends fully intoxicated. Mondays were always awful recovery days. I was at a point where I was starting to accept the fact that this was just the "hand of cards" I was dealt in life - I was always going to struggle with alcohol. By the grace of God one day, I stumbled upon a TedxTalk by Claudia Christian about how she used naltrexone and the Sinclair Method to overcome her own alcoholism. Everything she shared made total sense to me, and I had to give it a try - even though a part of me thought it might be too good to be true.

Within about a month I had gotten the prescription to naltrexone and began the Sinclair Method. I noticed a difference almost immediately. Within the first week my drinks had reduced, and I even had an alcohol free day that was not "white-knuckled" - it felt somewhat effortless. My journey continued from there with ups and downs, but over time my drinking and desire to drink was gradually decreasing.

After 8 months on the method I reached pharmacological extinction from alcohol and all of my cravings for it were gone. I drank for a few months more, and after about one year on the method, I decided to go alcohol-free as I didn't enjoy drinking any longer, and genuinely preferred sobriety.

It was a miracle and the answer I had been searching for all along. Today has been almost 3 years sober thanks to medication treatment. I am so passionate about spreading this information to as many people as possible. So many are suffering needlessly when there are effective treatments that can help a person to truly overcome alcohol addiction once and for all. That's my story. :)
