CAUDS Corner Fall 2022

This fall, we are delighted to share exciting details about our work.

Film coming to the big screen!

We are excited to announce that Smashed, a multi-award-winning film about our Society’s founder, Dr. Jeff Harries, and his legacy will hit the big screen at Penticton’s Snakebite Film Festival, Feb. 2023!

Watch for screening details coming to your inbox. We hope you’ll join us to come together and celebrate Jeff and his work treating alcohol use disorder in the company of friends, coworkers and the community.

If you live out of town, and can’t make it to a showing, not to worry! We will come up with ways for you to join in the celebration.

Click here for a sneak-peek of the film, but be sure to join us to watch it again on the big screen!

Leaders Workshop: Supporting Care for Alcohol Use Disorder in your Community

Community leaders in Princeton BC are invited to learn about successful treatment approaches for alcohol use currently being championed by local healthcare providers.

This November pilot event is co-hosted with the Community Foundation of the South Okanagan Similkameen and the Princeton Community Health Table, with the aim to create engagement toolkits for use in other communities.

Read more about AUD in this pilot community in the Similkameen Spotlight. Interested in attending? Contact us!

National Truth and Reconciliation Day

On this important day, we are pleased to once again share this 12 minute video: Alcohol Use Disorder New Approaches to Care: A First Nations Perspective. Learn how a compassionate approach to treating Alcohol Use Disorder as a medical condition can reduce cravings and complement a person’s existing support network including cultural, traditional and community-led healing.

We gratefully acknowledge that this project was filmed on the traditional Syilx, Haisla First Nations, the Kwakawaka’wakw and the Wei Wei First Nations territories.

Read Success Stories!

Alcohol Use Disorder can affect people from all walks of life and to varying degrees. Medication choice for treatment is then also based upon an individual’s personal, family and consumption history. The good news is that one of, or sometimes a combination of, recommended medications will work for just about everyone. Read our wide variety of stories here to learn about what worked for others

Contact us if you’d like to share your story!

Did you know that Alcohol Use Disorder is an entirely treatable medical condition, and a full recovery is possible?

Visit our website to learn more about understanding and treating AUD as a medical condition.

Once again, we wish to thank everyone who donated to the Canadian AUD Society to honour Dr. Jeff Harries, who passed away in late 2021.

By founding our society, Jeff was able to turn his personal mission to change the way AUD is understood and treated into a national strategy. With your generous donations, we are determined to continue his legacy, and implement his plan to transform lives across Canada and beyond.

Help us continue Dr. Harries’ important work.

Please consider donating today.
